Commonly asked questions and their answers

Not getting married, but interested in my commercial work? Click here.

Planning a wedding takes a lot of research, discussion, more research... it can quickly become stressful blur! I want to make my part easy for you, because I know you already have enough to juggle. I'm sure you have a LOT of questions too. I've taken the liberty of answering some of those questions here. Hopefully these answers can help you along the journey of picking the wedding photographer that's right for you. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't be shy!

Coverage and Travel

So, what are your prices already?

On average, my clients spend $2500-$4400. Please don't hesitate to contact me so that we can go over my specific collections and decide which one works best for you.

Do you do engagement sessions?

Absolutely! I love engagement sessions. Please note that most sessions will need to take place during the week due to weekends being reserved for weddings, but there are occasional availabilities. I do most of my sessions within an hour of Denver, but I am available to travel if that is what you prefer! Travel rates may apply, as well as fees for certain times of day (think sunrise sessions, or Friday evenings). If you have any questions about engagement sessions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Do you work with a second photographer?

Yes and no. I normally shoot weddings solo, but have worked with second shooters as well. I am able to cover most events by myself, and a second photographer isn't needed to fully document the day. If your wedding has a lot of moving parts, a large guest list, or anything else that would benefit from having multiple photographers, I do have the option to add one to your collection (an extra person is extra, after all!) You can add a second shooter when you book, or choose to add one later.

Do you edit all of our photographs?

Of course! I don't batch process my images, every photograph delivered to you will be hand edited, one at a time, just to enhance the overall image (like sprinkling parmesan on your pizza). Some of my favorites will receive some special treatment beyond normal editing.

Where are you based, and will you travel for our wedding?

I've called Denver, CO home for 5 years and don't see myself leaving any time soon. That said, I’m extremely comfortable traveling (it’s one of my hobbies). I have the ability, for better or worse, to actually get some sleep on long flights, and am very fluent in road trips. Rest assured that if you commission me to cover your destination wedding, then you are hiring someone very experienced with travel. I also bill travel very simply: if a hotel, any airfare, and/or rental car are needed, all you are responsible for is the direct reimbursement of charges. If I will be driving myself to the wedding and the venue is more than 40 miles outside of Denver, I charge a flat-rate per mile to cover the cost of gas.

We saw a super cool location, and want to be photographed there on our wedding day. Do you know if a permit is needed?

The quick answer is that I'm not sure. If the place you want to be photographed is at your wedding venue, the chances are slim that any additional photography permits will be needed. If you are leaving the venue, a new location may require a photography permit. If we try to shoot in a location that requires a permit and we don't have one, we will be asked to leave. I don't want that to happen to us! When the use of a permit is required, it is the client's responsibility to obtain it, not the photographer's. If you have any questions about specific locations, just let me know and I will help you figure out if a photography permit is necessary.

Image Delivery

How long does it take to get our images back?

Online galleries are posted within six weeks of your wedding date. I will send you an email with the login information to your gallery, which gives you access to the high-resolution files that you can begin viewing and sharing immediately.

How does the online gallery work?

The gallery is a private, password protected website where all of your photographs will be placed for you (and your family and friends) to view and download. It is also a secure shopping cart - you, and anyone you share your gallery with, can order prints from my preferred lab without having to go to an additional site. To share your gallery, you simply provide your login information to anyone who you want to be able to view the images.

Are our digital files watermarked?

They are not. Your high-resolution files are yours, and therefor will not bear any watermarks.

How many pictures will we receive?

The final number of photographs will vary due to many things; how many hours of coverage there were, how big the guest list was, types of events, hours of dancing, etc. My average ranges from 35-50 photographs an hour, but the numbers will of course be different for every wedding depending on the day itself. If you have any questions about image quantity, I'd love to hear more about your plans so that I could provide you with a more detailed explanation.

Do we get the copyright of the images?

Many photographers will include a "copyright release" in their contract, which gives the client (you!) a printing release so that you may print them at home or have a lab print them for you. It is not the same as owning the copyright! In a nutshell, . Selling or obtaining "the copyright" itself isn't possible, but you will have the ability to print and share the images as much as you'd like!

Do we receive the raw, unedited files of our images?

Much like the copyright, raw files are unavailable for purchase. That would be like asking your wedding dress manufacturer for the leftover fabric scraps! The images delivered are ones I've carefully selected are the absolute BEST from your day. Please rest assured any images that were not delivered were outtakes! If there are a handful of similar images, ie. you laughing with your best friend from college, I'm going to choose the best one, and anything that is a duplicate simply isn't saved. Beyond that, photos that may not be included would be an eyes-closed, person-walking-in-front-of-the-camera, or something that just doesn't work.

Which print lab do you use?

I use and love White House Custom Color. They're quality is consistently outstanding, and I haven't found any lab that I like better.

Can we print the images ourselves?

They are your images. If you'd like to print them yourselves, please feel free to do so. If you would like professional quality prints, I highly recommend printing through my lab, they have a rigorous quality control process, and I whole-heartedly trust them to give you an outstanding final print. If that is what you prefer, I do charge a minimal fee over their production cost. I'm not in the business to sell you prints at outrageous prices, I'm in the business of creating beautiful images that you can have as keepsakes. That being said, I can only guarantee the quality of a product that I know and trust. I cannot guarantee that your images will be consistent with paper quality, color, or clarity if you choose to print them elsewhere.

Business & Details

Can you hold a date for me?

I'm very sorry, but I cannot "hold" a specific date for anyone. To be fair to all of my clients, dates can only be reserved with a retainer and a signed contract. I accept bookings on a first-come/first-served basis.

What is your payment schedule?

A 50% retainer is due upon booking to reserve your date. The final balance is due 10 days before your wedding date. I'll send you a friendly email reminder when your payment is due. I do require the full amount of payment due before your wedding. Any overtime or upgrades beyond your wedding contract will be due after the wedding and before your final images are delivered.

What if I need to cancel my wedding? Is the retainer refundable?

The retainer and all monies paid are non-refundable. The retainer guarantees that I will not be anywhere else than with you on your wedding date, that I hold that date exclusively for you, and once we have signed our contract, I turn down all other commissions for that date.

When should I book my wedding with you?

ASAP. As I previously mentioned, I cannot hold any dates and once its booked...its booked.
